Bicycle and Ski Expert Tips:

Cycling shoes must have a hard sole so that the power is easier to transfer to the pedal and you must expose the narrow legs to less stress. The hard sole is also important for a more even pressure over the entire foot, otherwise you can get pain in the foot right where the pedal has been.

There are three main types of cycling shoes: mtb shoes, racer shoes and spinning shoes.

  • Racing shoes are characterized by the fact that they do not have a sole to go with and that they have larger attachments for the usually larger racing blocks. Since you do not have to go with them, they have steps on the heel you can put your foot on. They are often light, aerodynamic and have a very hard sole.
  • Mtb shoes are characterized by the fact that they have a sole that you can wear. Walking with them is not recommended for longer periods as the dumb sole gives an unnatural walking step and you can get very sore. However, the shorter distances that you can normally be forced to walk during an mtb race, it is excellent to walk. Mtb shoes have better cycling properties than cousin spinning shoes.
  • Spinning shoes look like mtb shoes and can be used on the same pedals. The big difference is that you have been given a more flexible sole with good opportunities to walk in.

Both mtb shoes and spinning shoes can be used with or without the blocks that fit in the pedals, however, racing shoes are unusable without real blocks.
