is a French sporting goods manufacturer founded 1947 i Annecy i France, from the beginning mainly known in Sweden for making bindings and boots for downhill skiing. Today, the company is owned by Finnish American Sports.
The company started making ski bindings as early as the 1950s and the range was expanded with ski boots in the 1970s. Then came a number of profile products, hats, gloves, etc., of which the so-called salomon backpack must be considered one of the company's biggest successes ever, at least in Sweden. It was a simple sports backpack, about 30x40 cm with a slightly smaller outer compartment, in navy blue with orange details and a large white "S". It was the Salomon backpack that, together with Fjällräven's "kånken", made Sweden's children and young people exchange shoulder strap bags for backpacks as schoolbags.
