Used Boots

Boot (from the Finnish pieksu), footwear of a strong kind.

The boot was originally used in the 1700th century in Swedish and was then used for the Sami or northern Scandinavian shoe types that were made by the same piece of leather forming the sole, sides, toes and heel of the shoe. An upper leather and shaft were then sewn to the sole. These are today commonly called beak boots or beak shoes. The shoes were laced with a strap extended with a wide band that was wrapped around the leg and tucked into the shoe shaft. They were later used for long boots which, instead of lacing or buttoning, were provided with elastic.

Boots were later also used by heavier sports or military boots.

One area of use for ski boots is as shoes to attach to skis when skiing or snowboarding, and nowadays the word is used almost exclusively in this sense.
