Salomon

is a French sporting goods manufacturer founded 1947 i Annecy i France, from the beginning mainly known in Sweden for making bindings and boots for downhill skiing. Today, the company is owned by Finnish American Sports.

The company started manufacturing ski bindings as early as the 1950s and the range was expanded with boots in the 1970s. Then came a number of profile products, caps, gloves, etc., of which the so-called salomon backpack must be considered one of the company's biggest successes ever, at least in Sweden. It was a simple sports backpack, approx. 30×40 cm with a slightly smaller outer compartment, in navy blue with orange details and a large white "S". It was the salomon backpack that, together with Fjällräven's "kånken", made Sweden's children and young people change shoulder strap bags to backpacks as school bags.

In 1990, the company also began to manufacture slalom skis and during the same decade, the production of cross-country skiing equipment also gained good momentum. Salomon merged with Adidas in 1997 to form Adidas-Salomon AG.  Salomon was resold by Adidas in May 2005 to Finnish Amer Sports. Salomon currently works actively with environmental issues and has an international policy which says that Solomon should:

  • Understand how the environment is affected by what Salomon does
  • Reduce C02 emissions
  • Reduce our dependence on non-recyclable materials
  • Eliminate toxicity
  • Develop products and processes that are environmentally friendly and recyclable
