Elan, is a Slovenian ski manufacturer (alpine skiing and ski jumping), sailboat and motorboat manufacturers and sports equipment manufacturers. The company's domicile is Begunje. During the 1970s, they specialized in skiing and developed into one of the leading companies. One of the company's greatest skiers and outward faces is Ingemar Stenmark.

Elan goes back to a business that made skis for the partisans during their war against Germany during World War II. The company was founded on September 24, 1945 by dozens of people under the leadership of the ski jumper Rudi Finžgar. The group consisted of engineers and craftsmen. Elan was able to produce 800 pairs of skis during the rest of the year. In 1948, the company was nationalized and the same year began exporting to the United States. In 1963, the company's development department started.[1]

In the beginning, they manufactured various sports equipment, in addition to skis as well badmintonAnd tennis rackets. During the 1950s, production was expanded to boats, lifesaving equipment, table tennis equipment, tennis rackets, hockey sticks and sledges. The big breakthrough for Elan came in the 1970s when the company focused on its ski production and was able to tie in. Ingemar Stenmark as poster name. Stenmark got a pair of skis from Elan's Swedish distributor who saw the talent Stenmark ride. The choice of ski manufacturer resulted in Ingmar Stenmark being threatened by letter from the Croatian fascist organization Ustasha, who argued that Stenmark indirectly supported the Yugoslav regime.[2] Another big poster name was Bojan Križaj. The company was able to double the number of employees and became one of the world's leading ski manufacturers.

Around 1990 the company went bankrupt and in 1992 it was bought by a Croatian bank. The company developed, among other things, the carving technology in skis. In the late 1990s, Elan again ran into financial difficulties and was taken over by the Slovenian state's development company. In 2008, the Slovenian state contributed SEK 90 million to save the company.[3] Elan has had operations in Austria and Croatia. Today, 300 pairs of skis are manufactured annually by Elan, which gives a market share of 000 percent. The company also manufactures skis for other brands.
